Umesh Kumar (CSE 1999)

Umesh Kumar, an alumnus of the 1999 batch of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi, is currently a Principal Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft.
Over the course of his career, Umesh has built and scaled large distributed systems across several leading technology companies. Prior to joining Microsoft, he worked at Airbnb, eBay, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs, contributing to the development of high-impact engineering systems and platforms.
After graduating from IIT Delhi in 2003, Umesh pursued his Master’s degree at the State University of New York (SUNY), Stony Brook, which he completed in 2005.
Giving Back to IIT Delhi
Umesh remains closely connected with his alma mater and has contributed to strengthening the academic ecosystem at the CSE Department, IIT Delhi through philanthropic support. His generous contribution supports the Chandruka New Faculty Fellowship, an initiative aimed at attracting and supporting outstanding young faculty members in the department. Through this fellowship, early-career faculty receive research support to advance cutting-edge work in computer science and engineering.
